Bio

Brianna Clancy is a DFW based mezzo-soprano who is equal parts performer and vocal educator. She is eager to return to live performances post-pandemic, and is delighted with her 2023 Spring and Summer Season!

This year Clancy made her Fort Worth Opera Chorus debut, and will be singing Dorabella in Opera Arlington’s first full length production, Così fan Tutte. In August, she will appear as Marcellina in Nozze di Figaro and Mercédès in Carmen, although she is most excited to cover Carmen in the same production with Diversitá Opera Arts. A magnetic stage presence and vivacious performer, Clancy is best know for her powerful sound and surprising agility.

Ms Clancy has spent the last 5 years performing in and around DFW, and appears frequently with the Orchestra of New Spain and Diversità Opera Arts. Her private teaching studio, of which she is especially proud, consists of 14 students ages 12-22. Her students have been selected for Booker T Washington High, TMEA Region 25 Honor Choir, and Texas All State Choirs. Messy Bun Mezzo students have performed roles at Allen High School, McKinney Boyd High School, and North Texas Performing Arts productions such as Grease, Something Rotten, Westside Story, The Little Mermaid, Anastasia, Beaty and the Beast, and Les Miserables.

Although her heart belongs to opera, Clancy is no stranger to choral work. She has performed in An African American Requiem, Carmina Burana, the Duruflé Requiem, the Fauré Requiem, Dan Forrest’s Requiem for the Living, as well as many Messiahs. Ms. Clancy is presently a member of Christ the King Singers under the direction of Thomas Pavlechko. From 2017-2021, she served as Alto 1 in the Chancel Octet at First United Methodist Church in McKinney. Ms. Clancy completed her undergraduate degree at Luther College, where she worked with Allen Hightower and Weston Noble.

Ms Clancy served as Graduate Opera Fellow and completed an M.M. in Opera at the University of Oklahoma in 2017. While there, she participated in masterclasses with great American mezzo Marilyn Horne, sang Olga in Eugene Onegin, La Principessa in Suor Angelica, and la Ciesca in Gianni Schicchi. She appeared frequently on faculty and DMA recitals, and particularly enjoyed coaching Czech music with Dr. Elizabeth Avery. She attended The American Institute for Musical Studies (AIMS) in Graz, Austria as well as Opera Viva! academy in Verona, Italy. Ms Clancy completed her studies at Luther College with her capstone project, and Lecture Recital, A Brief History of Classical Spanish Song and its Influence in Five of Fernando Obradors’ Canciones Clásicas Españoles.
